BIO: Bryan Palmintier is currently a PhD candidate in the Engineering Systems Division (ESD) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA. His research applies design under uncertainty methods to planning and operations of the electric power grid with significant renewable generation, storage, and demand participation. Prior to MIT, he worked with the Energy and Resources Team at Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI); consulted with Energy Solutions in Oakland, CA; spent six years on adjunct faculty and research staff at Santa Clara University’s Robotics Systems Lab; and worked as a staff energy researcher at Stanford University. He also teaches mountaineering and leadership for the National Outdoor Leadership School and has supported fish research at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, built satellites for Stanford’s Space Systems Development Lab, and designed hybrid rockets at the Naval Center for Space Technology. He holds a degree of Engineer in mechanical engineering (2004) and an M.S. in aero/astro engineering (2000) from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, USA and a B.S. in aerospace engineering (1996) from Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA, USA.
